Humor Vault's Voice Chat
client is not supported on the Macintosh platform at this time.
Q: How can I tell if
my computer has a sound card?
Normally, you can see a
speaker icon on the right hand corner of the task bar. If you do not
see this icon, then you either do not have a sound card or do not have
the necessary drivers installed for your sound card.
Q: I can't hear anyone
else talking. What do I do?
There are several possible
solutions: Click on the 'Options' button. Adjust the Speaker Volume
Control slider to the right for more volume, to the left for less volume.
Make sure that your speakers or headset is plugged into the speaker
jack on the back of your computer's CPU. On some machines, the jack
has a speaker icon by it. On other machines, the jack and plug are color
coded. To increase your speaker volume do one of the following: Turn
up the volume knob on your speakers. Double click on the speaker icon
in the lower left hand corner of the task bar. In the Volume Control
window, raise the Volume Control slider. NOTE: If you do not see a speaker
icon, your computer is not set up to use sound. You may need to install
a sound card and/or software ("drivers") to participate in live voice
chat. On your computer's task bar, select 'Start'---> 'Programs'--->
'Accessories'---> 'Multimedia'---> 'Volume Control'. In the Volume Control
window, raise the Volume Control slider.
Q: Other people can't
hear me. How do I adjust my microphone?
There are several possible
solutions: Check that the microphone is positioned correctly relative
to your mouth. Check to see that your microphone is plugged into the
microphone jack on the back of your computer's CPU. On some machines,
the jack has a microphone icon by it. On other machines, the jack and
plug are color coded. Check the microphone settings to make sure that
the microphone volume is set high enough. To adjust microphone volume:
1.Double click on the speaker icon in the lower left hand corner of
the task bar. ŅorŅ On your computer's task bar, select 'Start'---> 'Programs'--->
'Accessories'---> 'Multimedia'---> 'Volume Control'. The Volume Control
window opens. If you see the microphone device listed, skip to Step

following volume controls' group, add a check mark to 'Microphone' and
click 'OK'. 4.In the Volume Control window, find 'Microphone' and increase
microphone volume by raising the Volume slider. 5.In the Volume Control
window, some systems provide an "Advanced" button beneath the "Microphone
Balance" control allowing you to make further microphone adjustments.
Within the "Advanced Controls for Microphone" window, make sure the
"1 Mic20dB Enable" checkbox is checked. This can help boost the sensitivity
of your microphone. Use the Windows Sound Recorder to test that your
microphone and speakers are working correctly. 1.Click on your desktop.
2.Click the F1 key. Windows Help opens. 3.On the Index tab, type in
Sound Recorder. 4.Follow the instructions for recording and testing
the audio features of your computer.
Q: I hear myself in
my speakers when I talk. What do I do?
When sound from the speakers
is picked up by your microphone, it creates feedback. To adjust your
microphone input, open the Windows Volume Control: 1.Double click on
the speaker icon in the lower left hand corner of the task bar. ŅorŅ

talking. Why can't I hear myself?
Check to see if Mute Microphone
Volume is enabled in the Windows Volume Control. Muting the microphone
prevents feedback and other noise from interfering with your speech.
We recommend leaving Mute Microphone Volume enabled.
Q: Why do I get a gray
or white box while waiting for the plug-in to load?
A blank box may appear
during the first few seconds while the Web page is loading. Next you'll

the 'Options' button. In the Firewall Information group, check the box
to indicate that your computer is behind a firewall. If you are still
unable to connect, contact your system administrator. The voice chat
conference servers are currently down.
